Industry Tips

October 13, 2018 is an important date for UST owners.  That is the deadline for complying with what is called the “2007 regulations”.  These laws include but are not limited to:

  • Monthly UST walk through inspections
  • Annual
    • ATG probe check
    • Sump visual inspection
  • Triennial
    • Overfill prevention check
      • Initial reports are that a lot of these will not pass their test and will have to be replaced.
    • Spill containment manhole hydrostatic test
      • If you assume, as I do, that your spill containment manholes will fail their initial test then you may want to install retrofit liners to assure they are “liquid tight”, before testing.
      • It is important to note that NC DEQ UST Section would prefer you test the old spill buckets as they are.  However they have no legal authority to make you do so prior to installing a liner.  Any spill bucket that fails the test must then undergo a site check at the failed spill bucket.
